A couple of trips ago, I managed to lose the zip-off leg's from my pants. It was a cool, early season trip, but I was in my kayak. Naturally, being sealed in like that, you don't want be wearing all sorts of cloths (it
wasn't that cool). At anyrate, that was the only pants I had for the weekend, and was forced to wear shorts for the entire trip. I made it, but, it got rather uncomfortable when the
mosquitoes came out at night. With that in mind, here's what I pack in the way of clothing for a trip.
1 pair of socks per day, + 1 spare
2 pairs of underwear (nice, cotton sport boxer types)
1 pair of shorts, Qwik Dry
1 pair of pants, Qwik Dry (no more zip off legs for me)
2 t-shirts
1 fleece sweater
1 nylon, wind proof and waterproof jacket
1 pair of nylon, water proof pants
Lifa long johns, tops and bottoms
In addition to the above list, I include the following if I think it will be cooler.
Gortex jacket (replace the nylon rain jacket
Fleece pants replace the Quik Dry shorts
Gloves
Wool hat
For my feet, I have a pair of neoprene socks for kayaking or canoeing. I usually bring along my Scarpa hiking boots. And, of course, the Teva's -- they're great over top of the neoprene socks in the cold. Of course, I
try to make sure that I have allways have dry footwear. That means, if the boots get wet, I make sure that the
sandals don't. Usually, however, I let the sandals get wet.
