The Makeshift Strainer
Some years back, I was on a back packing trip, and I was going to make some macaroni and cheeze.
I wasn't looking forward to it because every time I did this, the 'cheeze' sauce
would allways end up far too watery. So, in a flash of inspiration, I came up with the Back
Country Strainer.
Here's how it works. |
|
What you need;
A plastic bag, Ziploc Freezer Bags (R) work well. Just make sure that the plastic is pretty
strong.
A fork, or if you haven't got one of those, use the leather punch on your Swiss Army Knife
(R). What? You don't have a Swiss Army Knife? Shame on you. |
|
Take the fork and pierce a whole bunch of holes along the bottom of the bag.
Make sure
that you leave about a half inch between the punches. The idea is to make strainer, but
don't weaken the plastic too much. |
|
Now, pour the contents that you wish to strain into the bag.
This might require two people,
but since you're not camping alone (or at least you shouldn't be), then that shouldn't be a
problem.
Remember to promise some to the person who helps you.
Just let the water drain on it's own.
Don't try to shake the water out, or spin it around because the hot water will make the plastic very weak.
I have seen people lose their pasta
doing that. |
